Web Site Notes
The 1st Battalion, 5th Marines Vietnam Veterans organization is a unit of the 1st Marine Division Association. The www.1-5vietnamveterans.org website is maintained by and for 1/5 Vietnam Veterans. The content of the site is what the 1/5 Vietnam Veterans contribute to it. It is your site and will be what you want it to be.
This information sheet is intended for anyone who is new to web surfing and is, perhaps, of little value to an experience web surfer.
The Frames.
The site uses a web design feature known as Frames. This site is divided into three frames: Top Frame, Left Frame, and Main Frame.

|---|
The top Frame has four features.
1. Click Contact Us and a page will open with a link to the principal officers and the webmaster. Click the link to any one of these and an e-mail template will open with the appropriate addressee.
2. Click Help and a page will open with a list of hints and PC tips.
3. Click Site Map and a page will open to help you navigate through the site.
4. Click Quick Links and a window will open with a list of link options that will lead to a number of recently posted pages on the site.
The Left Frame is a mini site map of important information about the organization, the officers, the committees, membership, reunions, special features such 1/5 Combat Ops, and USMC topics of general interest. Click any of the tabs to open the appropriate page.
The Main Frame is where most of the linked pages are displayed. Displaying pages in the Main Frame enables us to navigate by clicking links to other pages listed in the Left Frame, Site Map, or Quick Links . When a page opens outside the Main Frame, it is necessary to use the Browser's Back Button to return to the Main Page.
The Message Board.
The Message Board is a special communication feature dedicated for the use exclusively of members of the 1/5 Vietnam Veterans Unit. It requires verification that the applicant is a 1/5 Vietnam Veteran. When applying, one must submit their Name, Company and/or Platoon and dates of service. Members who were attached to 1/5, such as snipers, K-9 Teams, FO's, AO's will be given every consideration if they outline the dates and/or operations.
The Message Board is useful for individual communication to the whole unit without the need of numerous e-mails. A dialog can be obtain among individuals and groups.
Internet Access.
The site is developed using broadband (Digital Subscriber Line {DSL} or Cable connection. Dial-up access at 56 kbs may take more than four minutes to load some of the Photo Stories. However, most of the links listed in the Left Frame load quickly using a dial up modem, the pages accessed by Photos and USMC Topics being the exceptions. The photos have been reduced in byte size as far as possible and still maintain clarity.
TIPS:
The site is best viewed with a screen setting of 1024 x 768 pixels, and Maximized, and Full Screen ( Toggle Function Key F11 ).
