The Martial Arts Instructors Course is an element of the Infantry Unit Leader Training Company.  The 1/5 Vietnam Veterans Unit, 1st Marine Division  Association sponsors the Gung Ho Award for Fiscal Year 2008 with funds provided by an anonymous donor.

The award is unique in that it is awarded to the Marine with whom the class would prefer to go into combat.  The winner of the award for Class 01-08 is Corporal Jeffrey Ahern, HqCo, 1st Marine Regiment.  Corporal Ahern is from Fairbanks, Alaska.
